Challenge

Early vision and goal

The client needed a web and mobile application that would serve as a comprehensive service. Their goal was to make an easy, user-friendly software for merchants, where they can easily build and update their own mobile apps with e-commerce funcionalities. Main vision was, apart from building functional mobile apps, to enable them to easily change content and push messages and flash sales to their end users.

Business goals and online platform

Product (platform) we made is an e-commerce CMS system consisting of a web management interface for configuring the look & content of mobile applications and those same native mobile applications for iOS and Android that display that data in a predefined way.

Progress & Solution

Early start

We relied on merging our both experiences in the field when designing and building applications. The challenge was getting acquainted with the concepts of company. That included making sure I have an understanding of all parameters that will be used in the process. Otherwise, I would not be able to show product mockups within the agreed timeframe. Product discovery was the first phase and helped us both establish a strategy with a predictable outcome.

Communication as key to progress

Regular communication with client kept them involved in the process from the beginning, as well gaining ther trust in good outcome. Throughout the project we had a weekly meetings where the client could monitor the progress. There was a lot of revisions based on stakeholder’s vision, as well as feedback we gained from user-testing sessions which made application more user-friendly and usable to specific/target group of users.

Results

Feedback

I’ve received positive feedback and can confidently say that design solution benefited their business.

It took less than 8 weeks to have a completely usable design solution that satisfied all of the client’s needs. Initially, we spent about a week or two on planning so design didn’t take a place in early beginning. All hurdles that I ran into were overcame by regular communication with the client. When there were changes in the requirements mid-process, we tried to be flexible and modified the planning accordingly.

Learnings and plans for future.

Without regular communicaton and feedback on weekly basics, and with some other team members almost on daily basics, we wouldn’t have same results for sure. We could easily hit wrong direction and have large amount of work and resources wasted.

I have an ongoing relationship with the client which is positive and friendly as we occasionally work together on other projects.

Key benefits platform brings to users

  • Simple tool, based on user needs
  • Allowing merchands to be in control of visuals, look & feel and content of their own app.
